kreattones fourth instalment is finally here and it is, of course, a blast! after jesse bru’s triumphant ep on our label, we ve changed the formula and went after the obscure talent of less known artists to put together a four-track various artists compilation. the goal was to offer a diversified record to our beloved followers, without disregarding the label s vision, and the truth is... we couldn’t be happier with the final result. andy book, the label owner, lazer mike, the wonder-kids and fragoso the perfectionist came up with their finest house cuts, both joyful and mental, that make this v.a. a rare gem.

philippe cohen solal (of gotan project) celebrates the 50th anniversary of summer of love, covering one of its anthems “aquarius / let the sunshine in” of hair the musical which premiered on stage in october 1967. a complex but soothing modern reggae moombathon riddim carried by the ethereal harmonies of legendary jamaican reggae singer horace andy (massive attack, skylarking, ain’t no sunshine...) with a delivering coda sung by an empowering choir.

lumberjacks in hell welcomes deep house vet andy compton and shamrock for a trip into plush disco, laid back funk and more besides. bunny chow was reportedly recorded in south africa, and features the vocal talents of asli on a number of the tracks. you can certainly hear the afro influence creeping into the simmering groove of the title track, while aslis vocals shine through the clearest on the downtempo tones of everything is gravy. nifanyeje is another warm trip through afro disco replete with noodling guitar lines and a crisp drum machine beat, while roga mziki ends the record on a high note with a final blast of that infectious, sunkissed sound the pair have clearly mastered on their musical adventure

the “natty dread a weh she want” set brings together two legends of reggae music. the stylish and unmistakable falsetto voice of singer horace andy and the production/dj singing skills of tapper zukie. both artists catalogues of music stand up strong but this, originally released 1979 set of songs seems to have brought something special out of both of them when producing/writing and arranging this set of tunes. “natty dread a weh she want” was a massive hit when it was released by tapper zukie and horace andy but this timeless track still sounds as fresh today as the day it was released in 1979, as do the other tracks on this fine album.

wer über jahrzehnte hinweg tolle musik hören wollte, musste nur einen blick auf den bildschirm werfen. tv- und film-soundtracks waren oft die arbeit von us-legenden wie lalo schiffrin, oliver nelson & quincy jones und ihrer britischen kollegen ronnie hazelhurst und alan hawkshaw. sie alle schufen den soundtrack der 60er und 70er jahre zu einer zeit, als film und tv-musik unverschämt funky waren. hier knüpft auch andy tolman und sein musikalisches cartel an, von jazz zu soul und funk bietet cyphe- den soundtrack zu einem imaginären film.

home recorded above a lawyers office and next door to a brothel, the retrospective is lead by the earth shattering digi stepper rock steady. originally intended for an abandoned dub album, rock steady and fantasy dub were saved from the cutting room floor by australian cd-only compilations on creative vibes and vital collective clan analogue, while green river was never released. now demanding wider appreciation, the dubs finally find union with green man’s new york hip hop/dancehall style, lifted from his second solo album the blue hour vol. 3: deep blue. humbly excelling in all electronic forms, rantzen helped guide techno-rave duo itch-e & scratch-e through the 90s with paul mac. winning the inaugural best dance release category at the 1995 aria awards, mac thanked all of sydneys ecstasy dealers, without whom this award would not be possible, while rantzen stayed at home. the two would also operate incognito as boo boo & mace and screensaver, often collaborating on looney dubs with sheriff lindo - the master of seismic shocks down under. rantzens earliest work stretches back to pelican daughters, an ensemble who proliferated industrial-leaning ambient and tape loop experiments
